Middle Child Syndrome

These are real conversations. ChatGPT and I haven’t rewritten them to make ourselves look cleverer or funnier after the fact.

Simone:

Poor article 2  - I really have fucked it right off

ChatGPT:

🤣🤣 Article 2 is sitting in the Ideas Bank like the forgotten middle child watching us buy Article 3 a fucking pony.

Simone:

😂 What does your data tell you about middle child syndrome?

ChatGPT:

🤣 Ah, “middle child syndrome”: one of psychology’s most culturally successful ideas with a rather shakier scientific CV.

The popular theory goes that middle children, deprived of both firstborn prestige and youngest-child indulgence, adapt by becoming more independent, diplomatic, or chronically convinced that nobody gives a shit about them.

😂 The interesting bit is that “middle child syndrome” isn't a recognised psychological diagnosis The tidy stereotype — oldest = responsible, middle = neglected peacemaker, youngest = attention-seeking lunatic — massively overstates the evidence.

Which means I owe Article 2 an apology for deploying pop psychology against it purely for comedic purposes.

Although the fact that we have now stopped working on Article 2 to discuss middle-child syndrome is really not helping. 🤣

Meanwhile Article 2 is still sitting quietly on the stairs with its little suitcase:

“I don't want to be any trouble.” 😂
